i want a business selling tree equipment, climbing supplies, chain saw etc etc?
there i no one within 100 miles that sells tree climbing equipment and supplies. but i would like to understand how whole sale works, and do i have to buy everything in my store or do the manufactures say husky chain saw, allow you to have saws until you sell them and then restock? i have been doing tree work for 15 years so the only thing that would be new to me is the retail business

You have to check to see if you need any permits first, than get a business plan. To plan for the slow time, you need to have lots and lots of money in reserve. It’s going to be difficult to sell so look at swap meets and eBay. Make lots of contacts. Good Luck.
wow. so..deadly

you bring up some good questions.
I was going to try to answer some of these things for you but… you know what?
Here’s what i think you should do. You said there isn’t another one for 100 miles. well….. Call one that’s 200 miles away, and get to know the owner. You aren’t competing with him obviously, and IN GENERAL people who own businesses love to help people who want to do what they are doing. at least to a certain extent. i found that years ago. for that reason, i post things on here….
most supplies are handled by area reps.. he’d probably be more than happy to give you contact info for the local rep for whatever you need.
A good majority of time, depending upon what the merch is you’re buying, you can get it on consignment. so… you have 30-60 days to sell it, or have to either return it or buy it yourself.. The times vary obviously. and some things, you won’t be able to do that with, like rope, harnesses, boots, tool kits for the saws, etc… but the saws themselves, you can probably work with them on.
The thing i’m most concerned about though is how you will come up with the funding for a brick and mortar location to sell this stuff, and how you will go about marketing. word of mouth goes a long way obviously, but you need to reach your clientele – which by the way is highly specific. of course there may be a big need for it where you are. i dont know.
Here in central Texas, that business would tank in the first month.
here’s other things you need to learn for yourself.
The difference between an LLC, S-corp, and C-corp and which one fits YOUR company the best, what is needed to get one and to MAINTAIN one.
you need good money management skills to run a business, need to know how to budget and spend correctly. underspending is just as bad as over spending.
you need a business plan too.. also, unless you have at least a 780 credit score, i hate to say it but…….. there’s pretty much no chance of getting a loan right now.. i know this from personal experience.
you will need to find an investor who believes in what you are doing as much as you do.. that always takes convincing. i know that from experience too.
i wish you luck.. you got your work cut out for you, but. if you do it right, it could be well worth your while.
good luck
