first and foremost, footwear is very important. i would recommend the Merrel Moab or anything by KEEN. water filters work far better than purification tablets. Katadyn Microfilter is an excellent choice. It has worked for me reliably for years. For holding water, pick a good bladder pack that holds 2L of water and have a small water bottle on hand. Packs are a little more personal, for that long of a hike you’re gonna look at a sizeable pack. I would recommend something in at least the 5500ci to 6500ci range. Train hard, the packs will not be light. Expect at least a 55lb pack for that length of a hike. Plan your meals out in advance, put each days food in its own bag. That way, you can have that food readily available for the day without constantly digging through 3 weeks of food to find it.
Your tent will be important, I use a Texsport 6×6 that accomodated my brother and I about a month ago quite nicely. Plus it is cheaper that way than buying two 1 person bivy tents. Splitting the weight with him was nice too. That’s about all I can say for starters, good luck, be safe and enjoy your hike.
